The 74th OAP Midyear Convention addressed a diverse range of topics pertinent to the field of optometry. Participants engaged in discussions surrounding the utilization of evidence-based data to monitor the progression of myopia, as well as advancements in artificial intelligence diagnostics applicable to primary care optometry. Specialized fields, such as pediatric and geriatric optometry, were also highlighted.
In addition, the convention examined the impact of neurological conditions on visual health and explored strategies for effective management of such cases. Topics also included the latest technological innovations in contact lenses for the treatment of corneal issues, methods for detecting asymptomatic glaucoma, and the critical importance of advocacy for children's eye health.
The participants emphasized the necessity for specialized education within the optometry profession and the development of strong leadership to enhance service delivery. Overall, the objective of the convention was to advance optometric practices and services through education, collaboration, and advocacy.
